Surgical First Assistant Prep Program
This intensive online and onsite 4-week program is intended for students interested in learning about the field of Surgical Assisting, or for students needing partial admission requirements to participate in the Surgical First Assistant Key Program.
Surgical First Assistant Key Program
Geared for medical professionals desiring to become Surgical First Assistants, our innovative, flagship program includes 12 months of online study, independent clinical case requirements throughout, and two weeks of onsite clinical curriculum led by industry leaders.
Fundamental Operating Room Clinical Education
This 12-month program thoroughly prepares the student for the role of Operating Room circulator. Students will be learn the appropriate OR skills in a classroom setting and in clinical rotations at several Houston-area facilities.
International Surgical Bootcamp Program
Developed to enhance the current depth of knowledge of groups of students at educational institutions from outside the U.S., this 8-week program can be customized to focus on specific medical specialties.
Surgical First Assistant Prep Program
This four-week, concentrated overview and basic training of OR information and techniques is intended to serve as an educational stepping stone for new medical and allied health professionals or students eager to gain vital OR experience. The program can also serve to fulfill partial admission requirements/limited criteria for students to participate in the Surgical First Assistant Key Program.
The Surgical First Assistant Prep Program consists of 36 hours of online content, an eight-hour suturing class, two four-hour onsite practical sessions, and one four-hour onsite testing session. The 36 hours of online content are released over 3 weeks. The suturing class is held on the Saturday following the completion of the online content. All onsite sessions are held at our school in Houston, Texas, where students have access to a modern, computerized classroom and mock operating room.
Upon successfully completing this program, students receive a Certificate of Completion. The student may be eligible to apply for the Surgical First Assistant Key Program if they meet all other program requirements. Completion of this program supplements the requirement for three years of OR experience within the last five years. If a student is accepted into the Surgical First Assistant Key Program, the basic tuition of the Prep Program will be deducted from the basic tuition of the Key Program.

Surgical First Assistant Key Program
Spanning approximately thirteen months, our flagship program is an innovative and progressive curriculum created, inspired, and taught by medical experts. Through an initial twelve months of online learning, 400 clinical hours/240 independent clinical cases performed throughout, and a final, onsite two-week clinical rotation, the program offers students thorough medical training in the role of Surgical First Assisting.
Upon successful completion of the program, students receive a Certificate of Completion from KAI and may pursue advancement in a career path to become a Surgical First Assistant. The Surgical First Assistant Key Program is a National Surgical Assistant Association (NSAA) approved educational program and an American Board of Surgical Assistants (ABSA) approved training program.

Fundamental Operating Room Clinical Education (FORCE)
This twelve-month Fundamental Operating Room Clinical Education program provides students with thorough perioperative training. Upon successful completion of the program, students receive a Certificate of Completion and if they meet all requirements, may pursue advancement in a career path to become a Certified Nurse Operating Room (CNOR).
Per program requirements, students will be on-campus for classroom instruction and laboratory training. Clinical rotation will be held at several facilities throughout Houston. Students will learn the circulator and scrub roles under the supervision of preceptors, allowing them to hone their OR skills.

International Bootcamp Program
This program was developed to supplement and enhance the current depth of knowledge of students at educational institutions outside the U.S., with the ultimate goal of advancing existing career paths for these students. The program is fully customizable per group of international students sharing the same medical interest and native language. Specialized surgical fields of expertise, such as orthopedics, laparoscopy, etc., can be made the sole focus of the educational content, if preferable. Although this program generally runs eight weeks, it may be extended per prearranged agreements.
Besides familiarizing foreign-trained professionals with western-style surgical protocols and language, this program is intended to provide relevant and topical surgical information. Exposure to advanced technologies such as robotics and hands-on surgical training with cadaver and medical pig surgical practice at The Methodist Institute for Technology, Innovation & Education may also be available to students.
Upon successful completion of this program, students will receive a Certificate of Completion from KAI. If the International Surgical Bootcamp Program is part of a foreign educational institution’s requirements, students may receive additional certificates as deemed necessary by their institution.
Included in the base tuition, each student receives classroom training, two dedicated medical instructors, copies of textbooks (online and printed), and scrub attire to be worn while onsite or off campus. Our Key Solutions packages offer supplemental support services such as accommodations, transportation, and translator assistance.
