    KAI earned an affiliation with The Methodist Institute for Technology, Innovation & Education (MITIE) on January 24, 2012. MITIE is a comprehensive, state-of-the-art education and research center at The Methodist Hospital in Houston, Texas.

    Key Surgical Assistants of Texas (KSAT), a staffing division of Key Access Institute, LLC, prides itself on employing Surgical Assistants who are licensed and/or certified by national and state governing bodies, and who practice according to industry standards.

    Achieving licensure is a professionally time-intensive process. Maintaining that distinction requires, among other things, that LSA’s are of good moral character and have not had a license or certification revoked. All licensed individuals must also be current with their certifications by national governing bodies.

    Approved national bodies that mandate certification for Surgical Assistants include:

    Governing bodies that mandate licensing for Surgical Assistants vary per state and per educational background of the Surgical Assistant.

    • In the state of Texas, Surgical Assistants who come from an allied health background are licensed by the Texas Medical Board (TMB).

    • Surgical Assistants who come from a nursing background, called Registered Nurse First Assistants (RNFA’s) are licensed through the Texas Board of Nursing.
